4. Do you have a preference for the
size of building that new retail options (like Fred Meyer) would be
allowed to occupy?
37 (44%) Any added retail
options should be required to operate under current regulations.
(Buildings can be no larger than 50,000 sq. ft., the size of Food
Pavillion & Safeway.)
27 (32%) I would prefer a
"full-sized" (145,000 to 175,000 sq ft) facility, similar to Fred
Meyer in Burlington.
16 (19%) I would accept larger
facilities, but would prefer it range in size from 50,000 to100,000

6. If rezoning SR20 from its current
industrial zoning to allow a retail store like Fred Meyer also meant
that up to 300 acres along SR 20 between Thompson Rd and Reservation
Rd (click on picture) could also be rezoned for retail. What
would you say?
38 (45%) Locate the retail
stores on SR 20. It keeps the traffic generated by the retail
stores out of Anacortes and takes advantage of SR 20 traffic volume.
Retail stores built in this area will add to our tax base.
19 (23%) Don't rezone SR
20 for retail. Doing so would put added pressure on
businesses in town to relocate to SR 20, instead of renovating older
buildings. New retail store(s) should be located on R Ave in
Anacortes, which is closer to town (reducing travel time) and the
number of retail stores can be limited.

We don't need additional retail in either place. I am
satisfied with my choices in Burlington & Mount Vernon and would
prefer to drive the short distance to preserve our quality of life.
